This website was created and is maintained by the Victoria Collective for a Particpatory Society.
The Victoria Collective for a Participatory Society exists to promote the idea of a Particpatory Society. We support the proposed systems of Participatory Economics (parecon) and Participatory Polity (parpolity). Parecon is an alternative economic system that is is much more just than (and very different from) Capitalism or Communism. Parpolity is a political system for passing laws, much more participatory than our current system of representative democracy, which only serves the interestes of a wealthy elite. If both of these systems were implemented, with proper attention paid to issues of race, religion, and gender, a Participatory Society would be formed. In a Participatory Society there would be no more corporations, advertising, stock market, interest rates, or banks. We seek to eliminate these institutions or replace them with participatory structures. The system we seek to implement is classless and fosters direct democracy, solidarity, equity, diversity and justice. It does not encourage war, poverty, or environmental destruction, but rather the opposite.
Political System: We seek to implement a nested council structure instead of a representative system. Parpolity maximizes citizen participation and is organized to allow every citizen voting rights in proportion to how much they are affected by the decision. Everyone would have much more say on governmental issues than they have today. Click here for more information.
Economic System: We seek to implement a new economic system called Participatory Economics, which suggests that all workers work in a balanced job complex. Everyone in a Balanced Job Complex would share empowering and rote work, and everyone has the right to vote on workplace issues. It uses a participatory planning procedure instead of markets to generate and distribute goods and services. It is a truly different economy that is much more just than capitalism.
